Spinal Bracing
Spinal Brace designs can vary in the area of the spine they support and in the degrees of support they provide. More rigid forms of bracing reduce and immobilise the spine more effectively and can assist following acute injury or surgery. Spinal Orthoses can reduce flexibility and muscular strength if worn for extended periods of time. It is important to maintain natural flexibility and strength for the condition of your spine. For these reasons it is important to only use your Spinal Brace under the direction of your Physiotherapist, Specialist or Medical Practitioner.
In conjunction with therapy Soft Collars are used to assist in the short term management of mild to moderate soft tissue injuries.

More rigid collars like the Philadelphia or Miami-J are used to restrict movement at the cervical spine to treat stable but more severe injuries.

Thoracic-Cervical orthoses like the Minerva orthosis provide maximum support to the cervical and upper thoracic spine.

Thoracic - Cervical
HALO Thoracic-Cervical orthoses are used for cervical alignment and stabilization in the care of more severe acute injuries or fracture management. Orthotists assist in the application of the vest or jacket with the orthopaedic medical team. We provide a wash and liner change service for HALO users.

Soft Elastic or Neoprene Lumbar-Sacral orthoses are used for the short term assistance of pain relief from mechanical spinal injuries. Neoprene braces provide a warming effect and mild support for lower back pain

Newer styled Lumbar-Sacral Orthoses incorporate a pulley system that provides a firm but controlled amount of support as required for varying activities.

Rigid Lumbar Spinal orthoses immobilise the lower spine and are used following surgery or in the short term management of spinal trauma or stable fractures.

Pain and Postural change resulting from Osteoarthritis or Osteoporosis of the spine can be assisted by flexible spinal bracing. The Spinomed assists with moderate immobilisation and acts as a reminder to correct poor posture.

SpineCor® was developed in Canada for the management of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis 12 years ago and is used in multiple treatment centers around the world. It has also been used to manage symptoms in the adult scoliosis group.
It’s a flexible dynamic system that acts on the neuro-musculoskeletal system. It works on a corrective movement principal which is ideally supported by physiotherapy intervention. The Orthotist - Physiotherapist relationship is crucial for best outcomes using this system.
